Warner Service History

Since 1937, the Warner name has been synonymous with value, quality, and integrity. Now into its third generation of family ownership, R. W. Warner remains committed to our core values and ensuring that the needs of our customers and clients are our first priority. We are exceptionally proud to share the story of our heritage with you.

1937: A Family Business Is Born

In 1937, Reese William Warner and a friend opened a small plumbing business called Warner and Winpigler, which they ran out of the Warner home. The company “headquarters” was his kitchen table, with his wife Mary Jo handling the books. Finding ample work modernizing homes with indoor plumbing and heating systems, they expanded to a shop on South Market Street. Following World War II, R.W. began working for some of the area’s first post-war housing projects.

A New Name and Face

The business name became R.W. Warner Plumbing and Heating in the early 1950s, and R.W.’s young son began working for the company while in high school. In 1960, R.W., Jr. joined the family business full time and the company moved to 5th Street. “Bill” was particularly interested in pursuing commercial, industrial, and government contracts; the firm continued to grow in that direction, incorporating in 1966.

The Second Generation Takes the Reins

Bill took over as president in 1973, and R.W. became chairman of the board. By following his father’s unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction, the enterprise continued its expansion and moved to its current location on Monroe Avenue. Although he retired from daily business operations in the mid-1980s, R.W. continued to serve on the board of directors and was also appointed to the Maryland State Plumbing Board by the Governor.

Smart Growth

By the mid-1980s, R. W. Warner, Inc. had established itself as one of the pre-eminent mechanical contracting companies in the region. Recognizing the value of being able to offer a total mechanical package, Bill elected to grow through acquisition, and in 1986 purchased a long-time subcontractor to the company — Kaempf and Harris, a sheet metal fabrication and installation company. With the ability to control the entire mechanical package from fabrication through installation, the company continued to expand its services to many of the regions most prominent general contractors.

A Third Generation of Quality

In 1988, Bill’s son, Matt Warner, started working for the family business full time after earning his Business and Finance degree from Mount St. Mary’s. Matt learned the ropes as a Project Manager and quickly worked his way up to General Manager of R.W. Warner. “One of the reasons our company has succeeded across generations was the relationship my father and I had in the business,” explains Bill. “He always allowed me to move forward and be creative. Now I’m doing this with Matt as he assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operations.” Matt has been instrumental in furthering the company’s growth, having established Warner Construction in 1993 to support the mechanical division, and ensuring the company’s technology remains cutting-edge. By 1998, the transition to the third generation was complete, with Matt being named as CEO.

When shopping for an HVAC contractor it is imperative that a homeowner educate themselves in advance. Learn about the different types of equipment, the benefits of each, costs, efficiency, lifespan, warranties, and maybe most importantly is your distribution of conditioned air in your living space. Of course by that I am referring to ductwork and how air moves throughout your space. Great airflow is the beginning of comfort, finding someone who understands that is paramount.

Earlier this week, not a moment too soon given the extreme heat we are facing in the Susquehanna Valley, we had a Daikin Fit 2 ton heat pump installed at our home. This system is a fully variable speed modulating/communicating system. This system replaces a nearly 30 year old oil forced air furnace and dinosaur of a central AC. No more $1500.00 oil bills at the beginning of the heating season, no more smells of exhaust and carbon monoxide alarms going off on windy days, no more uncertainty of annual costs…just clean, reliable, quiet, energy efficient heating and cooling.

Words/phrases like wow, I never thought, I’ve never been so comfortable, and I can’t hear it come to mind when speaking about this new system. To say we are impressed or pleased is a gross under-representation of how happy we are. The humidity in the home is finally under control. The temperature is even in every room. No more noisy floor fans, obnoxious window units, and wildly different temperatures room to room. No more humidifiers sitting around the house in the winter to clean and listen to. This new system does it all, literally everything. A simple command to Alexa, a quick swipe on your smart phone, or a touch of the Daikin One+ thermostat and our adjustments have been made from anywhere in the world where there is an internet connection. A gentle blue glow on the wall indicates the system is actively cooling the home while an orange glow signifies heating is in progress.

Jeff, Levi, and the distinguished installers and designers at Warner made it possible. After having other companies quote as any responsible homeowner would do, it was clear within minutes that these were the folks for the job. They were early to their appointment, had clean vehicles, professional, and spelled out exactly what to expect from start to finish. They even got our system installed ahead of schedule. Day one was crazy awesome. The old junk was removed and hauled away and existing duct modifications began. Day two wrapped up the new design changes, the overwhelming remainder of the install, wiring, and other checks. Day three only lasted four hours and consisted of commissioning and startup of the new system. We literally went from old, inefficient, and outdated to modern, sleek, and amazing in about 20-24 hours of total work.

Looking back, our biggest regret is waiting so long. For years we dealt with what we had because we didn’t realize we could do this and actually afford it. Call Warner for your home comfort needs, ask about the Daikin Fit for your home, and begin your journey to being part of the Warner family and comfort exceeding your expectations.

We even capture our condensate water to water our plants with! A win for us and the environment we cherish.
